What is Swadhyaye. It is to complete the mission embarked upon by Mahatma Gandhi. The first phase of this mission—the setting of India free—was realized in 1947. The second phase of this mission is now concerned with the building of India anew. Swadhyaye is actively involved in the fulfillment of this task of the second phase.

To put it briefly, Congress, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, gave the call in Bombay in 1942 to quit India. Now under the leadership of Dadaji another call is given by Swadhyaye in this same city of Bombay—the call to build India. On this historic occasion, you are witnessing just one small example of the efforts that go into this activity. Now let us all join together to bring to fruition this mission of building India.

The Qur’an (14:24) likens the true believers to a tree. And a tree, as we all know, springs from a seed. The tree, one might say, is the external manifestation of the inner core of the seed. The seed has just to be activated and then a whole tree, burgeoning with leaves, flowers and fruits comes into splendid existence.

The same is true of human beings. Man has within him a whole world of beauty and meaning. Activate man’s inner core and a whole human existence full of beauty and meaning will appear right in front of you.
